The safety of passengers is paramount in any world-class airport. At Singapore Changi Airport, the highly trained Airport Emergency Service (AES) unit stands ready to provide rescue and fire protection at all times.

Our achievements
Changi Airport Group’s AES has a proud tradition of providing for the safety of passengers that stretches over six decades. Over the years, AES has constantly benchmarking ourselves as one of the leading Airport Rescue and Firefighting. Being in the forefront of technology, AES maintains its fleet of vehicles in their top condition in preparation for new aircraft types and in case of emergencies. AES has also been actively involved in the planning and emergency response for large-scale events like Asian Aerospace, Singapore Airshow and the Singapore Grand Prix (F1 night race).

Here are some of the achievements:

February 1997
AES Changi successfully obtained ISO 9002 certification by Bureau Veritas Quality International (BVQI).

October 2007
Hosted International Aviation Fire Protection Association (IAFPA), Aviation (ASIA) Fire Conference in Singapore.

October 2008
Commissioned world’s first airport foam tender driving simulator mounted on a six-degree of freedom motion platform.

October 2008
Hosted ICAO Asia and Pacific Aerodrome Emergency Planning (AEP)
Seminar in Singapore.

Mission statement
The AES provides rescue and fire protection at Changi and Seletar Airports as well as at the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) airbases within the Republic to the highest standards prescribed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) so that these aerodromes / airbases can remain operational.

Mission objectives
  • Maintain a high state of preparedness at all times and be able to meet the ICAO standards and recommended practices in the response times and effective mitigation in an aircraft emergency / accident.
  • Ensure that AES officers are proficient to deal with all foreseeable emergencies involving aircraft.
  • Ensure that there are adequate airport fire vehicles, marine craft and equipment that are effectively manned for the speedy mitigation of an aircraft accident.
  • Promote the observance of high standards of fire safety within airports and terminal buildings / infrastructure.
  • Further improve the quality management system in providing an effective and efficient service.
  • To continually enhance the Airport Emergency Plans for both the civil airports and RSAF Airbases, and ensure the testing of the plan at recommended intervals.
